Jesse Kitinoja: Big Bear & Little Bear

The Kuusamo Arctic Residence Center and Tourism and Culture Center Karhuntassu applied for an artist-in-residence to design a light installation for the new Karhuntassu Center. Based

on the applications, Tampere-based architect and artist Jesse Kitinoja was selected as artist-in-residence.

During the October-November residency, the light work BIG BEAR & SMALL BEAR, designed by artist Kitinoja, was built on the roof of the renovated tourism and culture center Karhuntassu.

In Kitinoja's sketch, two bright constellations, Ursa Major and Ursa Minor, lead us on a mythical journey.

The finished work was presented at the opening of Karhuntassu on January 16, 2023.

The Karhuntassu project was a cooperation project funded by ERDF, the main implementer was the city of Kuusamo, and the partial implementers were Kuusamo College and the University of Lapland.
